DIY Maternity Nurse Gifts

In preparing for the delivery of our little princess, it has felt like a never ending list of to-dos! Clean this, wash that, pack this for the hospital, leave that at home. So many lists!

One of the things I really wanted to do was make little gifts for the nursing staff. Nothing too big of course, because with a new baby we are on a budget. But still something sweet and individual for the people who would be taking care of me and my precious baby girl for the short time we’re in the hospital.

My aunt is a nurse and when I asked her opinion on the matter she said anything chocolate is a big hit and, of course, little individual gifts are so appreciated by the staff.

I decided to make little baggies with two types of chocolate, Reeses and MnM’s. I purchased the candy from Walmart for less than $10, and still had plenty leftover for those late night chocolate cravings.

I opted for Individual Portioned Baggies (these Great Value Brand bags to be specific) since I already had them in my cabinet and then designed labels to attach to them. These bags are actually the perfect width of a business card, so using them to potentially promote a business in the future may come in handy! Just staple your card to the top and go, but that’s a topic for a different blog post 😉

While I know, without a doubt, that we are having a girl, I figured some readers may be having a boy or may not know at all (kudos to those moms who can wait until birth to find out, the suspense of that would kill me!) may want other color options besides pink. I have included the FREE printables for pink, blue and yellow if you would like to recreate these for your own use.

Once printed, I cut the labels out, folded them over and stapled them to the bags. Super easy and quick! All together, I made 20 little baggies in less than 30 minutes.

Dr Suess Inspired Baby Shower

Featured

Of all the baby showers, my utmost favorite theme is Dr. Suess! I remember reading those books all the time as a child, so the theme is just so fitting to welcome a new baby. This theme also gives you the opportunity to use bright, fun colors and is gender neutral.

I wanted to make Truffla Trees based on The Lorax. That was my favorite Dr Suess story growing up and the trees just look like so much fun! These was really easy and cheap to make.

Materials included: Tissue Pom Poms (from Hobby Lobby) in various colors $4.99 each, Two Foam Pool Sticks (from the Dollar Tree) $1.00 each, a roll of black electrical tape (from the Dollar Tree) $1.00 and a hot glue gun which I had at home.

To prep the tree trunks, you simply wrap the black tape in a diagonal motion down the length of the foam pool stick.

Once complete, you want to open the tissue pom poms and assemble/fluff out per the instructions on the packaging. Use a little bit of hot glue on the end of the foam pool stick and gently place the assembled tissue pom pom to the end. Hold until the glue is dry and YOU’RE DONE! Super easy!

We used these for decoration on either side of the TV.

The additional tissue pom poms were hung around the house for decoration. We also had balloons in various colors floating around the house which really popped and gave the whole space a nice colorful and whimsical look.

One of the most important elements of any party is the food. My mom and best friend hosted this shower for me and planned the food based on popular Dr. Suess books. I made the food labels and we simply taped them to tooth picks. If you mouse over the images below you’ll see the description of the foods accordingly.

We played a super fun trivia game for everyone to fill in the missing word to popular Dr. Suess rhymes. You can download a PDF of the game here: Dr. Suess Trivia Game

My aunt made the cake. She was given free reign to be creative and design whatever she wanted. This was the result. Quite amazing, right?!

DIY Spa Jars with Printable Labels

2015-01-07 16.35.22This Christmas I was inspired to “create” gifts for family and close friends in an effort to give more memorable and meaningful gifts. For the girls, I made spa jars. I shopped at a local thrift store to find unique jars for a good price. I then purchased general spa themed items from the Dollar Store/dollar section at Target to include nail files, nail polish in varying colors, nail clippers, buffer bars and lip balm. I purchased different shaped bottles from Hobby Lobby in addition to Peppermint Oil since I wanted everything to have

I used the following recipes:

Foot Soak: 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup Epson salt, 4 Peppermint Tea Bags, 5 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil. Mixed together in a bowl.

Foot Scrub: 1/4 cup coconut oil (melted for 25 seconds in the microwave), 3/4 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 10 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil.

Foot Softener: 1 7.5oz jar of Vaseline (I chose the coco butter scent), 1 bottle of lotion (I chose Peppermint Scented from Bath & Body Works thanks to a free coupon), 2 4oz jars of Vitamin E cream (purchased from Wal-mart for $4/two pack). Mixed together with an electric beater and poured into the jars using a funnel.

Bath Salt: 1/2 cup Sea Salt, 1/2 cup Epson Salt, 2 tablespoons Baking Soda, 2 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil, food coloring (based on color scheme of jar).

I cut and glued the labels to the individual bottles and themed the jars accordingly with the tagline “For Your Mistletoes”. I also filled some plastic containers purchased from the Dollar Tree with smaller portions and put circle decals on those which can be downloaded here.

Air Force Send Off Party

This has been a year of surprises! As my brother left this summer for the Coast Guard, my sister has been waiting for the right job so she could leave for the US Air Force. Finally, a job she liked opened up and now she is ready to leave the week before Christmas. While the thought of having both siblings so far away is quite sad, I couldn’t be more proud of their decision to enlist to serve our country.

In true party fashion, I had to make printables for her send off, similar to those for my brother’s Coast Guard send off earlier this year. We didn’t really do themed food for her party since she specifically wanted pizza. Her party was unique to her personality and included a bounce house, smores bar and bon fire, photo booth and dancing.

Cinderella Party Printables

Cinderella has always been one of my favorite fairy tales. With courage, kindness, and hard work, this heroine proves that good people don’t always finish last and that a pair of new shoes can sometimes be life changing. Yesterday Disney launched the first movie trailer for the much anticipated live-action Cinderella movie, coming to theaters March 2015. I was thus inspired to create some fun Cinderella themed party printables to share with the world. Hope you enjoy!
